Exploring community-driven archives as a path toward institutional transformation

Friday, July 15, 2022, 1:00pm-4:00pm EDT

Chaitra Powell, the curator of the Southern Historical Collection, will use examples from UNC Libraries’ Mellon-Funded, Community Driven Archives grant (2017-2021) to reflect on the agency of librarians/archivists to challenge and transform their institutions from the inside out. Workshop themes include, community epistemologies (ways of knowing), community empowerment, ownership, power dynamics, relationship building, and resource distribution. The session will be hybrid and include a 45-minute Zoom presentation, followed by a 30-minute Q&A, and a one-hour interactive discussion session with in-person participants. A travel honorarium is available for in-person attendees in the amount of $115.
